TOEFL Coaching for Study Abroad
TOEFL iBT Preparation Online & Classroom

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is one of the most trusted English proficiency exams for students planning to study in English‑speaking countries. The most common version today is the TOEFL iBT (internet-based test), which measures how well you can use English in real academic situations such as lectures, classroom discussions, reading university texts, and writing structured responses.
For students in India preparing for overseas education, TOEFL is widely accepted by universities in the USA and Canada, and it is also recognised by many institutions in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. A strong TOEFL score can improve your admission options, support scholarship applications, and make your overall student profile more competitive.
At Access Global, our TOEFL coaching is designed for Indian students aiming for global universities. We focus on building practical academic English, test strategy, and confidence—so you perform well not only on exam day, but also in your university life abroad.

Overview: What is TOEFL and who should choose it?

TOEFL is an English language proficiency test designed to assess academic English. It is especially popular for students applying to the United States and Canada. Unlike many exams that can be prepared with fixed memorised formats, TOEFL iBT evaluates your English through integrated tasks—where you read, listen, and then speak or write using the information you understood.
If your target universities are in the USA, or if you want a test that strongly matches lecture-style listening and campus-style communication, TOEFL is often a great fit. Many students also prefer TOEFL because it is fully computer-based, and the scoring pattern is straightforward (0–120).
Students commonly take TOEFL for undergraduate admissions, master’s admissions, PhD applications, graduate assistantships, and scholarship eligibility. In some destinations and routes, TOEFL iBT is also accepted as an English proof for faster study permit processing, subject to the latest rules and the university’s own cut-offs.
Choosing the right English test depends on your target country, university requirements, and personal comfort with computer-based testing. During your counselling at Access Global, we help you select the most suitable test and build a realistic preparation plan.

TOEFL Test Format: Sections, timing, and question types

TOEFL iBT assesses four skills—Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing—using tasks designed to mirror real academic life. The total test time is typically under 2 hours, but students should still prepare for sustained focus and quick decision-making under timed conditions.
Reading includes academic passages similar to university texts. Questions test your ability to understand main ideas, details, inferences, vocabulary in context, and sentence meaning. Students learn how to manage time while maintaining accuracy across multiple passages.
Listening uses lecture and conversation audio. You are tested on comprehension, purpose, connecting ideas, and understanding how information is organised in a lecture. Because the audio is played once, smart note-taking becomes a key scoring factor.
Speaking includes tasks where you speak into a microphone. Some tasks are independent (opinion-based) while others are integrated (based on a short reading and/or listening). Writing includes one integrated writing task and one academic discussion task, focusing on clarity, organisation, grammar, and vocabulary.

TOEFL Scoring, levels, and what your score means (0–120)

TOEFL iBT is scored out of 120. Each section—Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing—carries 30 points. Your total score is the sum of the four section scores, and universities may review both overall score and section scores, especially for competitive courses or communication-heavy programmes.
In practical terms, a score in the 70–90 range is commonly considered workable for many universities (depending on the programme). Scores around 90–100 are often viewed as strong and competitive. For highly selective universities, it is not unusual to see expectations above 100 and, in some cases, around 110 for top-tier programmes.
Your score also indicates academic readiness. Higher Reading and Listening scores suggest strong comprehension for lectures and textbooks. Higher Speaking scores indicate better classroom participation and confidence in presentations. Higher Writing scores show the ability to produce organised, academic responses—important for assignments, reports, and research work.
At Access Global, we don’t only coach for an ‘overall score’. We also build section strength based on your target course. For example, students applying for law, journalism, or humanities benefit from stronger writing. Students applying for STEM or management benefit from strong listening and speaking for teamwork, meetings, and presentations.

Country-wise TOEFL requirements for study abroad (typical ranges)

TOEFL requirements vary by country, by university, and by programme level. The best practice is always to check your exact university requirement; however, students benefit from understanding typical score expectations so they can set a realistic target score early in the process.
United States (USA)
TOEFL is widely accepted across American universities. Many institutions commonly accept scores around 80–100 for undergraduate and postgraduate entry, while top-ranked universities and competitive programmes may prefer 100+ and sometimes 105–110+.
Canada
TOEFL is accepted by many Canadian universities. For competitive programmes, students often aim for 90+ as a strong benchmark. For Canada’s Student Direct Stream (SDS) pathway, TOEFL iBT has been accepted since August 2023, and a commonly referenced minimum overall score is 83 for SDS eligibility (students should still meet the university’s own cut-offs).
United Kingdom (UK)
Many UK universities accept TOEFL, with typical expectations ranging from the 70s to 100+, depending on the institution and course. Highly selective universities may set higher overall and section minimums.
Australia
TOEFL is accepted by Australian universities, and TOEFL scores are also referenced in Australia’s English language framework for visa purposes. Course requirements vary, so students should target scores based on their university, course level, and (where relevant) visa category expectations.
New Zealand and Ireland
TOEFL is accepted by many institutions, and typical competitive targets often fall in the 80–100 range depending on course requirements.
Europe and other destinations
TOEFL can also be accepted across Europe for English-taught programmes. Requirements can vary widely, so we recommend confirming score expectations during course selection.

Benefits of TOEFL for Indian students going abroad

TOEFL preparation builds academic English that directly supports your success overseas. You learn to understand long lectures, identify key ideas, take effective notes, and communicate clearly—skills that matter in real classrooms, not only in exams.
A good TOEFL score improves admission outcomes. Universities use English proficiency as a confidence signal: students with strong TOEFL results are more likely to handle academic workload, research reading, and structured writing. This can also strengthen scholarship and assistantship profiles, especially for postgraduate applicants.
TOEFL is also a practical choice for students who prefer computer-based testing. Many students feel comfortable typing essays, working with on-screen timers, and practising using digital tools—similar to how assignments and learning platforms work in universities abroad.
Finally, TOEFL coaching builds confidence. Students who complete structured speaking practice usually perform better in university interviews (where applicable), classroom participation, presentations, and day-to-day communication once they arrive in a new country.

Training Methodology

Our TOEFL training method is built around three outcomes: accuracy, speed, and confidence. We begin with a diagnostic assessment so we know your current level and your realistic target score based on your chosen country and university shortlist.

Reading training focuses on fast comprehension without losing accuracy. We teach skimming and scanning, identifying question traps, managing inference questions, and improving vocabulary through academic context rather than rote memorisation.
Listening training is built around strong note-taking. Students learn how to capture structure (main idea, supporting points, examples, and transitions) so they can answer detail and inference questions accurately. We use lecture-style practice so students become comfortable with university-type audio.
Speaking training includes regular drills for pronunciation, fluency, and coherence. Students practise both independent and integrated tasks with structures that still sound natural. We help students reduce hesitation, organise ideas quickly, and speak with a confident pace.
Writing training covers integrated writing and academic discussion writing. Students learn how to summarise accurately, structure responses clearly, link ideas naturally, and avoid common grammar issues. Every student receives feedback that is practical and actionable, so writing improves steadily.

Our Tutors

Access Global’s TOEFL tutors are experienced language professionals who understand the realities of studying abroad. Our trainers focus on building academic English that students will actually use in classrooms, presentations, group projects, and written assignments overseas.

Our tutors are trained to evaluate speaking and writing using scoring rubrics aligned with exam expectations, which makes feedback more accurate and useful. They also understand common Indian learner patterns—such as overthinking during speaking, weak paragraph structure in writing, and missing key details in listening—so they teach targeted solutions that work.
Beyond test skills, our tutors mentor students on confidence, clarity, and communication habits—so students don’t just ‘get a score’, they develop a skill set that supports academic success abroad.
